The Rotator system is directly derived from industrial cranes, but transformed into a towing boom mainly dedicated to lifting heavy goods vehicles. It is normally equipped with two towing winches. Unlike lifting with industrial hoisting cranes using a block and tackle with a single multi-strand hoisting line and a single hook, righting or lifting of overturned HGVs involves very considerable radial forces. These radial loads are caused by the position of the centre of gravity, in fact if you know where the load's centre of gravity is located you just have to hook up to that precise point and lifting can be carried out vertically without any disruptive radial loading. But it is very difficult to find the centre of gravity of a load quickly. In our case with the Rotator equipped with its two turret winches, there is no need to look for the centre of gravity of the load, because you can support the total load at two points with the two hoisting lines. The major difficulty in the development of the Rotator consisted of designing a turret with a large crown and an orbital motor forming an assembly that is sufficiently strong to take up the radial forces generated at the time of winching. These radial forces are linked to the fact that the turret tends to pivot and align itself – vertically with the load during winching. The Rotator has an exceptionally oversized orientation crown – of a type generally installed on 200-Tonne cranes – allowing it to support the loads described while providing it with an unrivalled additional side pulling capability. The Rotator system is widely used around the world with several hundred in operation –dedicated to emergency HGV breakdown services – on the civil market for more than 15 years. This system provides the ideal solution:

-       whenever a strategic point in a road network has to be freed,

-       when people are trapped under vehicles,

-       when someone's life may depend on a few minutes' hoisting operations.
